On-line Spring Book Fair -Historical Novelists Only

Welcome to the Book Fair.

This is a Book Fair for those who love stepping back in time.

Whether you love historical novels with a literary bent, frivolously romantic or you're inclined toward swashbuckling epic series, then you've stopped off at the right place.

It was suggested Authors should think market stall and make their blog an eye-catching "page display".  So please, join in the fun, and remember, you have four days to browse the fair

If you would like to join before the linky tool shuts shop: please do.

To advertise this event please copy/paste badge to your blog: see side-panel and link back to this page: thanks

But first, sign up below:  don't forget to list your url in the linky column.

A question: Our latest publication is the about-to-be-released audiobook version of "The Shenandoah Spy". The latest novel with a print edition is "The Queen of Washington" (MELTDOWN is more of pure thriller, but "alternative history" because it doesn't reflect this universe, but one very much like it.) Which of these is most appropriate for this event?

PS: Review copies for all of these available upon request.

Francine Howarth said...

Hi Anne, you're welcome... I've missed the old blogfests! They used to be such fun. ;) I'm thinking of doing a Summer bash as well as a pre-Christmas one. Perhaps make a regular 3 fest feature.

Francine Howarth said...

Hello Francis,

I'd go for the latest release (nearest to the fair date) - an audio clip would be great!

Just popping in to say 'hello'. I'll make a note to visit as many blogs as possible during the event, although I'm not strictly an historical novelist, the nearest I have come being my 5th Century Welsh/Greek muse fantasy 'Dancing With Fate', but I do enjoy reading historical fiction!

Francine Howarth said...

Hi Hywela Lyn, lovely to see you! I think Dancing with Fate deserves a spot as a Historical Fantasy. ;)

I am new to blogging, and I do need a glossary. Can you or someone else explain the instruction"To advertise this event Please copy/paste badge to your blog: see side-panel and link back to this page: thanks" I am without a clue. I figured out what a badge was on the BookBlogs site and joined up,but I do not know what to do to promote the event or submit materials.

Francine Howarth said...

Hello Linda,

Please do join in the book fair. Add your url to the above Linky list and post your promo post to your blog in time for the start 12th Aril.

re the banner: If you have a blogger blog, copy/save image to wherever you save images. Now copy this url: http://tgunwriter.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/on-line-spring-book-fair-historical.html#comment-form

Next: go to design (top bar)of your select "layout" from list of tasks, then choose image icon... Add/upload the image and place url in the url box.

Hope this helps!

best

Have I done something wrong in trying to link? There is a little x by my name in the above list?

(Just about to try and post the stuff to my blog with badge etc - here's hoping...)

Anonymous said...

Is anyone else on Wordpress? I can't relate the instructions I have for posting banner and url on my blog to Wordpress layout... Help! Please!

Linda Fetterly Root said...

Thanks, Francine. You have taught a very old doggie some neat new tricks. I still have to figure out why I get such weird formatting on my excerpt, but at least I was able to do it. I could learn to like this bloody blogging!

Francine Howarth said...

You're OK, Margaret. The little red X is so that you can opt out of the book fair if you wished to do so.

Francine Howarth said...

Again, don't worry about the link. So long as people use this base blog to access the listed sites, all will open in a separate window.

Sue Millard said...

My link seems to have disappeared! I've added it again.

Francine Howarth said...

That's weird! Never known that happen before. Good job you checked. You're in now, that's the main thing.

Richard Abbott said...

Hi Francine, what a great idea! Many thanks for this. I have added myself to the list and uploaded a suitable post to my blog.

Thank you Francine for organising this opportunity for us - my article is up. I thought it appropriate to talk about my 20 years an author.) http://ofhistoryandkings.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/20-years-author-book-fair-2013.html

Apologies for my feeble attempt at a blog - still learning...

Francine Howarth said...

Hi Marie, taking part is good enough! Lovely trailer. ;)

Hi Francine,

I've written a blog post and added the URL to the linky but the banner thing doesn't appear on my Wordpress blog, so I guess I'm doing something wrong. Do you have any advice? This is the link. http://timvicary.wordpress.com/2013/04/13/historical-novel-book-fair/

Anonymous said...

It's ok, I've cracked it now! Apolgies for being such a slow learner - all thumbs on the internet!

Francine Howarth said...

Welcome aboard, Tim. You'll be an old hand in no time at all. Sorry, I haven't a clue how Wordpress functions, but I know Blogger inside out. ;)

Yangsze said...

Thanks so much for organizing this, Francine! I think I just squeaked in under the submissions deadline -- so many wonderful blogs to look at!!

Francine Howarth said...

Welcome aboard, Yangsze. The captain believes in leaving the boarding platform down until the very last minute. ;)

Marie Macpherson said...

Thanks for giving me the chance to experiment with a blog. I'd signed up with Wordpress but had never got past 'go'. Spent all weekend trying to figure it out - and also for the chance to see other writers' fantastically professional blogs! And so many great reads. Thank you.

Francine Howarth said...

Thank you, Marie, for taking part. Blogging can be fun but can also test patience whilst becoming familiar with all the bells and whistles of new portals! I did start a Wordpress blog once: threw my hands in the air with disgust and duly skipped back over to blogger, which I know like the back of my hand. ;)

Helen Hollick said...

I think I've FB'd and Tweeted about everyone's post for the Book Fair - my apologies if I've missed people out (it wasn't always easy on some blogs to find the Book Fair Post, and I'm afraid I haven't got much time to go searching) Also not all posts have quick, easy links (i.e. to Facebook & Twitter) It might be worth considering adding them as it does mean your readers are more likely to "share"
Finally - have you all submitted your books to the Historical Novel Society for review? Mainstream writers, your publisher should do this for you, Indie and self published go to http://historicalnovelsociety.org/our-reviews/submission-guidelines-e-published-subsidy-published-and-self-published/ for submission details. We have a US & UK "branch" and take hard copy or e-books. We do insist on quality of production though - and this includes correct layout, not too many typos etc.

Again, thank you Francine for organising the Book Fair - its been great fun - and very interesting!

Francine Howarth said...

You're right, Helen, some of the blogs proved difficult in finding the comment section (wordpress blogs) let alone those that didn't have a direct link to their Book Fair post. Other than it was fun to read some of the imaginative introductions.

Thank you for hosting this event, Francine.

Michael Wills said...

Many thanks for this event Francine. It must have been a lot of work for you, but I appreciated being able to take part

Francine Howarth said...

It was fun and a pleasure, Michael. There's no real hardship in setting up a virtual book fair or blog hop, not when so many are willing to engage! All one requires is that of a banner, a linky tool and then one hopes for the best. ;)
