Impart realism to a manuscript with the three main senses!

Sometimes the above is easier said than achieved.

It's too easy to write away and not think about
a) environment surrounding our characters.
b) how best to convey what they're feeling.
c) describe what they're seeing.
And, then there's the how might they express themselves  in relation to all the above?

Utilising the senses within our writing is topic of conversation at Heroines' with Hearts, so you might like to drop by and see how we tackle the subject.

I have a post-it notes next to my computer reminding me of all the senses. You are right - it is too easy to forget one or more of them!

I almost never concentrate on the senses.

Now I'm slowly adding them in with the rewrite.

The senses convey that all important 'show not tell' and can envelop a reader so completely. Good post and good advice.

(rushes off to make sensory notes...)

The senses are something I tend to forget so these days, I make a point of getting them in on my last edit.

Hi all,

I'm sorry to be late on replies but I have a great excuse: a barking cough and I feel like sh*t!

Must say I love playing on the senses because it lends to possibilities of things to come, memories of past experiences, and best of all present tense intimacy. ;)

That sounds to be an interesting topic to shed some knowledge on. It's very important for any creative person to know.
